Custom software

Custom software built around how your business works

When off-the-shelf tools don't fit, I build the tool, integration or internal app that does. I use enterprise engineering practices, sized for small and mid-sized businesses, and you own the code.

Custom software services

Every project is quoted after a free intro call.

  1. Custom Internal Tools

Replace the spreadsheet, paper form, or manual process with a simple tool built around how you work.

    Who it's for

Businesses that have outgrown spreadsheets or can't find an off-the-shelf product that fits. If an existing product does fit, I'll say so.

    What's included

    • Scoping together: what the tool must do now and what can wait
    • A small web app or internal tool, built in short steps so you can see progress and adjust
    • Professional engineering habits, sized for small and mid-sized businesses: version control, testing, and documentation
    • Handoff: you own the code, the accounts, and the hosting, with written instructions
  2. System Integrations

Get your systems talking to each other so information stops being copied by hand.

    Who it's for

Teams using several good tools that don't share information, and who are tired of entering everything twice.

    What's included

    • Mapping where your data lives and where it needs to go (e.g. CRM, scheduling, accounting, forms, spreadsheets)
    • Connecting them through their APIs or a lightweight integration
    • Error alerts, so a failed sync gets noticed instead of quietly losing data
    • Documentation of what connects to what, and how to change it
  3. AI Features for Your Software

Add a practical AI feature to software you already have, or extend an app you rely on.

    Who it's for

Businesses with their own app, website, or internal system that want AI added the careful way, not bolted on.

    What's included

    • A review of the existing app or codebase and what's realistic to add
    • Building the feature (e.g. document summaries, smart search over your own information, drafting replies) with sensible limits and human review
    • Testing on your real data, with attention to privacy and cost
    • Handoff notes for you or whoever maintains the software

How I build

The same habits I use in enterprise software, without the enterprise overhead.

  • Version control from day one. Every change is tracked and reversible.
  • Tests where they matter. The parts your business depends on are checked automatically.
  • Documentation you can read. How it works, how to run it, and how to change it.
  • Small iterations. You see working pieces early and steer as we go.
  • You own it. The repository, hosting and accounts are in your name.

Built well, and yours

Modern, well-tested software that you fully own. I use AI assistance to build quickly, and an experienced engineer (me) reviews the work.

Build or buy?

If an off-the-shelf tool fits, I'll say so, and I'll help you set it up. Custom software is worth it when the work is core to how you operate, when you're paying for several tools to do one job, or when nothing on the market fits.

Common questions

Who owns the code?

You do. The code lives in a repository you own, the hosting and service accounts are in your name, and you get documentation for all of it.

What happens after handoff?

You can run it yourself, hire any capable developer to extend it, or ask me for ongoing support. The documentation means you're never stuck with me.

How long does a project take?

It depends on what we're building. I work in small iterations, so you see working pieces early instead of waiting for one big reveal. You'll get a timeline with your quote.

How much does custom software cost?

Every project is quoted after a free intro call. The quote is either a fixed scope or a set block of time, and we agree on it before any work starts.

Have something you want built?

A free 20–30 minute call. No sales pitch, no pressure. You'll come away with a clearer idea of what's worth doing, even if we don't end up working together.

I take on a limited number of clients at a time.
